I slept in like a teenager. Made Flan (disaster). Watched Mad Men. Went out for dinner. Went to a Home & Garden show.
Pretty much nothing productive happened. Except cleaning out the chicken palace. Going to the Home & Garden show was fun. We actually had an agenda. We wanted to talk to decking people, retaining wall people and fireplace people.
We have a beautiful fireplace in our bedroom that needs some attention. We never use it because it smokes plus it has an unfinished look to it. Since it is in our bedroom it is really just for ambiance. It's a wood burning fireplace but has gas running to it to help start the fire.
What we want is to just put a fake log in there and put on a glass door to finish it off. Every fireplace person we talked to launches into a fireplace insert, btu's, direct vent vs. natural vent, blah blah blah. Blah to the tune of $2,000.00 or more.
We finally found a vendor that is conveniently located to us and when we told her what we were looking for she said "Well - that's easy. You just need a log and door."
I'll save the decking and retaining wall discussions for another post or two.
Oh - we watched Ondine over the weekend too. Filmed on the South-East coast of Ireland. You feel like you are really there. It's hard to explain the plot except that it is part fairy-tale, part gritty, realistic view of what it's like to be an Irish fisherman. You never quite know what is real and what is fantasy in the movie.
