I'm totally filching a post idea from my sister. She attended a dinner party the other night and the topic of books came up.
The question going around the table was "Which three books would you choose to take to a desert island?"
Here's the thing, though. I think this should be a private question because no one is going to be truthful in a public setting. People are going to pick books that they think will shed them in a positive, highbrow, literary way. They'll say things like "I do believe my first choice would be Dante's Inferno. The un-translated Italian version of course." When they really mean V.C. Andrew's Flowers In the Attic.
But since I've already outed myself as a plumpish person what do I have to lose. I yam what I yam; to quote an esteemed literary character, albeit an overly developed drawn one. So here are my three books.
Anne of Green Gables (can I pick the whole series or is that totally cheating? Or since it's my question do I get to set the rules? I say the whole series)
The Chronicles of Narnia (again with the cheating)
Shogun (figured I better throw in an adult book)
What would your three books be? Feel free to keep the answer to yourself, if you like.
I love Anne of Green Gables...I would pick the whole series too! As for the others, too many faves to choose from!

Definitely Pride & Prejudice, Anne of Green Gables (which I'm taking on the plane on our trip because it's been a long time since I last read it), and I love the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters.

When I was a child, I loved the Anne of Green Gables series, and The Chronicles of Narnia! I would love to have the time to read them again, my childhood favorites. I would also take The Secret Garden, and sneak The Little Princess in somehow. Fun topic!

Ditto for me . . . Pride and Prejudice. I would also choose Huck Finn and the Bible. I would love to be reading on that island right now!

We share so much, I read your blog daily and can relate to everything (esp the nasty "o" situation, but enough about that!)
I wish I were near enough to the place where I grew up so I could relive some of the fun times of being a child again, but I do it now long distance. Speaking of Anne (with an "e") a few years ago several of us visited Nova Scotia and PEI and got reacquainted with Montgomeries "Anne" We decided to give a Christmas Tea with the theme and we had such fun, I made four identical dresses and pinafores, we bought our hats with braids while on our trip. Oh, I am an Anne of Green Gables fan as well. Right now my daughter is reading The Secret Garden which I loved as a child! I am enjoying reading it again with her.
